The first class I took with Laurie was in 1995, and I was hooked. When she began teaching in New Mexico around 2016, I started taking her class every year. It has become as much a spiritual retreat as a book arts workshop. And although my home practice is far less disciplined than when I’m in Laurie’s class, the intention and magic are always there, quietly present in the back of my mind.

What is one intention you have for your practice this year?
I have many artistic interests, and sewing is one that brings me great joy. I incorporate fabric and stitching into all of my books and artwork. Each year, my intention is to give myself the space to let go of my inner critic and to free myself in the same way I do when I’m in Laurie’s class.
