Winter Seed’s Promise

Winter seeds

This class is full. To get on the waiting list, click here.

Investigating seeds is fuel for words, for paint and for pencil. Seeds awaken a sense of everything becoming something else, of the “something evermore about to be” (Wordsworth). Seeds are the promise of the new life that arises from what has gone. Seeds come from the natural world, from dreams and from ideas. A sown seed is the beginning of creativity.

In the classroom, seeds cross-pollinate.

Winter is the time for contemplation, for making room for what wants to come. In the late winter desert we will prepare seeds for the coming spring. We will make order out of chaos. We will plant ideas and dreams with our hands. We will put our trust in the idea that everything we need is here.

Join us for a contemplative experiment with writing, drawing, painting and bookmaking in an atmosphere of delicious food, history and beauty. Enjoy an experiential and metaphorical exploration of seeds, documented in a handmade book.

The workshop fee includes the class, your room, and all meals. All rooms have a private bathroom, and the meals are large and delicious.

We are committed to making this workshop accessible to people of all income levels, including younger students. To this end, we are happy to announce the Martin Ray Young at Heart Scholarship to help make this possible.

Workshop Location

This workshop is held at Mabel Dodge Luhan House in the heart of Taos, NM. Those traveling by air can fly into Albuquerque or Santa Fe, then take a private shuttle or public transportation to Taos.

Please note that Mabel’s is an historic site and is not handicap accessible. Taos is at an elevation of about 7,000 feet above sea level.

Workshop Registration

The food is spectacular. Side dishes at Mabel’s.
