L Doctor | Acrylic & graphite on paper

This class is full.

Had the look of flowers that are looked at
— T S Eliot

The flowers that are looked at look different than the ones that are not noticed. The same is true of anything we give full attention to — including the work you do. You can feel the care in a line or a gesture, and this is the “something else” that the viewer senses in your work.

The landscapes we live in, the world too, changes, not with only being looked at, but seen. There are all kinds of patterns, movement, sound and scale that become more apparent with careful study. It is a lovely thing to experience the change that comes over a person or a thing when given full undiluted attention. You don’t need to live in the country to notice the pattern in clouds, leaves and wind.

L Doctor Sketchbook | Ink & Acrylic on paper

Join us for three days of exploring pattern in landscape through writing. We will use ink, graphite, watercolor, fine point pens and found objects from the natural world. We will look at examples from our world, as well as drawings from Paul Klee and Vincent Van Gogh, using line as the basic element. We will make a simple book.

Please come willing and prepared to support a contemplative atmosphere by leaving your phones, watches, etc. outside the classroom.
