Igniting Imagination: The Making of An Art Book
A workshop with Laurie Doctor

Content gives life to form. As artists, we become embodied in our work by creating context: by having something in particular to say or offer to the world. In creating content for our work, there are questions we could ask: How does your work change when you use your own words? Where is the thread of continuity that makes your work your own? What is the creative pattern that supports artistic work?

In this workshop we will explore content by beginning with writing exercises and exploring handwriting, abstract images and color. We will make a small book to carry seeds of ideas from imagery and writing.

To make this possible, the class will be taught as a creative pattern with a beginning, middle and ending in a contemplative atmosphere - so plan to come for the whole day and leave your cell phones and other electronic devices outside the classroom.
