Development of Handwriting
Stories were first transmitted orally, passed down by sound and gesture through time. Gesture became visual when color touched a surface. These symbols became alphabets.
The shift from oral transmission to visual representation signals a dramatic change in human consciousness. There is a lot of conflict about what we have lost and what we have gained.
In this class we will begin with classical models and our own handwriting to develop new ways of seeing. We will apply principles of proportion, unity and contrast, pattern and variation. From observation, practice and exercises, each student will develop her own handwriting and make a small book.
