Brush Lettering, Pattern & Books
A workshop with Laurie Doctor
in association with the
Colorado Calligrapher's Guild
Brush lettering is immediate, lush, unpredictable and seductive. While brush calligrahy is contemporary, it spans thousands of years of history. It is contemplative as well as spontaneous. In this workshop we will begin with abstract and italic forms, and then progress into variations. Our work will be documented for each student in a hand sewn Exemplar Book. Proportion, unity and contrast, pattern and variation, figure and ground are instrumental in creating the pages of our book.Writing, design, and bookbinding techniques are provided to offer direction and incite your work. Our tools are the pointed brush, obscure writing instruments, sumi ink, and watercolor. Materials for the book will be provided.
