It is possible to develop writing through all of the senses. In this class, we will explore writing visually, by copying texts that we are not familiar with. We will also explore how the other senses can be engaged: sound, smell and touch can play a significant part in enlivening the quality of line. For example, an enhanced involvement of the sounds in poetry opens the door to alliteration and assonance and the richness of language. These skills are the same ones that we use for drawing, for seeing. We will make a small portfolio of our work. All levels of experience are welcome. The materials we use include fine point pens, graphite, watercolor, colored pencils and sumi ink. Not A Day Without A Line* *Title of an exhibit by Paul Klee Date: April 29 & 30, 2006 |
