I have just begun work on a collaborative project called Messages Lost in Time. I find scraps of paper in my studio from years ago where I have scrawled: speechless mute melliflerous motet or olive oil, pepper, bread and onions. Other papers have bits of color or stitching, perhaps a coffee ring.
In this class we will begin with scraps we have gathered, and perhaps exchanged. These bits and pieces will be the beginning of finding a thread that connects the writing and painting that we do. We will use collage, drawing, painting and writing techniques. Color studies, composition and writing techniques will be part of the exploration. Inspiration will come from music and poetry in a contemplative atmosphere.
Exercises will foster quality of line, seeing with the eyes of an artist, and doing work that is particular to each student. Each student will be responsible for choosing a subject that they return to.
This class is open to all levels and to non-calligraphers. Laurie is interested in students who can come for the entire class, and are willing to leave their cell phones behind.
