This theme keeps evolving with new possibilities of how our marks can reflect landscape.

Horizon is defined as “the apparent juncture between earth and sky”. This universal phenomenon provides limitless possibilities in terms of both metaphor and painterly ideas.

We will explore how the quality of line, as reflected in the natural world, relates to lettering.

We will use a collection of writing implements, paint and ink
in a series of experiments based on principles that define landscape; e.g. distance, horizon, texture, movement, scale, light and pattern.

This workshop is part of a series that investigates the ways that the universal elements of line, as they are found in landscape, can be reflected in our work. The exercises in this class lead from the concrete into more abstract expressions of writing, drawing and painting.

Context will be provided through imagery and poetry in a comtemplative atmosphere.
