Casual Capitals
Exploring the pleasure of color through the handlettering of contemporary capitals

Casual capitals have a musical, fluid and playful quality while holding the grace of the Roman Capitals from which they are born. They easily lend themselves to the exploration of the subtleties of color.
In this class we will refer to the traditional letterforms while concentrating on ways to express lively contemporary letters. We will explore auditory, tactile and visual ways of working with hand lettering as well as color considerations in developing a palette.
Material used will include watercolor, graphite, sumi ink and all kinds of writing tools. Bring a favorite poem, song or text to work with.
