Performance art pieces have evolved out of the tradition at Naropa University’s Convocation ceremony culminalting with the president drawing names from a hat.
Those called on recite a spontaneous line of poetry as I write with brushes and paint.
This practice has evolved into creating pieces in the moment at birthdays, weddings and other celebrations.

At an exhibit I am often drawn to the liveliness of the studies,
sketches and notes that precede a painting. These pieces often give a more personal window into the inquiries and research of the artist. These pieces reflect my errant thoughts, experiments and studies that accompany a series
of paintings.

Throughout history artists have found each other and fueled and challenged one’s way of working. Working with another artist always brings something new to my work and often shifts my way of seeing.
In this case we are combining word and image through photography and calligraphy.
